First, How Did We Get Our Name?
We knew you’d ask. Whatever Girls is inspired by Philippians 4:8: “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy, think about such things”. We can’t control the negative influences from our culture, but we can control our response, and how we live our lives by being girls who exemplify these pillars of Philippians 4:8. We are “Whatever Girls”.
Our Mission Statement
We exist to empower teen girls to choose God’s best for their lives by exemplifying the pillars of Philippians 4:8: “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy.”
What Do We Do?
All girls want to be known, loved, and feel significant. If they don’t get that affirmation from home, especially from a father figure, they often look elsewhere for it. Some girls will turn to a boy- any boy- for attention, while some give in to drinking, drugs, or sleeping around, believing those activities will gain her acceptance within a group.
When a girl knows that she is set apart and was created for a special purpose by God, she knows that her value and worth come from Him, not what the kids at school say.
Our ministry was founded by Erin Bishop in Spokane, WA in 2009 as a
preemptive strike for her daughter and her friends who were about to go
to middle school, and was designed to encourage and equip teen girls
and their moms as they navigated through their teen years. In Whatever
Girls group meetings, mothers and daughters grow in their faith through
Bible study, topical curriculum, talking about peer pressure, and girls
are given strategies to pre-decide how to handle different scenarios
when faced with peer pressure.
We are a repository of current information about the issues today’s teen girl and her parents face: friendships, girl drama, boys, bullying, depression, suicide, sex trafficking, cyberbullying, internet safety, social media, sexual integrity, abortion, eating disorders, self harm, leadership, communication, courage, living out your faith when it feels like you’re the only one, healthy self-image, the father/daughter relationship, the mother/daughter relationship, and more.
We offer small groups for mothers and daughters in several states across America, we work with moms who want to start up new groups, we offer online Bible studies, encouraging and informative blog posts for teen girls and parents from our team of writers and speakers, speaking events, and an online prayer community for hundreds of moms worldwide, special events, and more.
Seven years later, Erin’s daughter is in college and Whatever Girls is a global ministry walking alongside mothers and daughters, and Whatever Girls groups in communities across America.
