With a new school year settling in and new friends and activities entering the picture, I’m aware more than ever just how much the world would like to suck my kids (and yours) in. In fact, this is the perfect time of year. We’re busy, we’re tired, we’ve got our kids activities, homework, chores and many other things to oversee. It’s easy for things to slip through the cracks here and there.
I want to encourage you right where you’re at. Maybe things are going great with your kids right now. Maybe they’re not. It doesn’t matter what category you find yourself in. God’s Word applies to each of us regardless of where we’re at. That includes our kids, too.
When I was a teen and in my early 20’s I did some things I’m not proud of. But when I turned my life around as a married woman and mother, this verse summed up what I felt God had been showing me all along, in His time.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.
The first time I read that verse was like a long awaited exhale. Grace, mercy and hope washed over me.
Here’s another verse I love.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
These two verses make quite a team, don’t they? Like cake and frosting, or coffee and creamer?
These verses have become my failsafe. I know them and I believe in them with all my heart. I have the blessed assurance that God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth has a plan.
Take away: God has a plan for you and your kids. Plans to prosper and not harm. He has plans that bring a hope and a future. And because you love Him and are called according to His purpose, He will work everything together for good.
What’s your favorite verse?
How do you specifically pray for your kids? (This is an area I need to get better at!!)
