This past summer was the best summer ever! I have done so many amazing things. I went camping, went on a trip to Washington DC, I had dance, and church camp. But for the first time ever I went to a family camp in Canada. It was amazing! It is one of my favorite things that I did over the summer. It was great because it was a smaller group of people, I made many new friendships, the messages were amazing, and there was a lot of down time to get to hang out with my new friends. But the camp wasn’t only about my friends. I also grew in my relationship with my family. I realized how much they mean to me.
Family can be hard sometimes. Your younger siblings who share a room with you may annoy you, and being with your family all the time can make it easy to get too comfortable with them. I know that for myself, it can be easy to give my peers and other adults my best attitude, and my family gets what’s left over. Sometimes I am just plain grumpy and I get bothered way too easily by my family. But God gave us our family for a reason. He put us in the right birth order, with the right parents and siblings, with the right extended family. We need to steward the relationship that we have with our families, because they are a gift from God to us.
5 Ways I Enjoy Time with my Family:
- I go on trips with my family to help us spend some quality time together. We get away from the hustle and bustle of life and get to hang out together without any distractions.
- I like to play games with my family.
- We will play board games to help us spend time together at home.
- We will sit down and have dinner together to help us stay connected and filled in on each other’s lives.
- Sometimes we just watch a movie together. We aren’t talking or really doing anything, but it is nice for our whole family to be together.
I will play with my younger brothers and sister and do what they want to do to stay connected with them. Whether it is playing football with my brothers, or house with my little sister, I need to be intentional to stay connected with them.
I love my family. Sometimes I get annoyed with them and we argue, but we work it out in the end. Family is one of the most important things that we have. God has given our family to us and we need to steward the relationships and be grateful for the amazing gift that God has given us!
