I’m so excited to share Whatever Girls Contributor Bekah Hamrick Martin’s book “The Bare Naked Truth: Dating, Waiting & God’s Purity Plan” (Zondervan, 2013).
The Truth About Sex and Waiting … Uncovered and Revealed
Purity. Sex. Boys. Waiting. Something about those words makes everything complex in a heartbeat. Is there something wrong with me if I don’t kiss a boy after a date? Or am I doomed if I did? Is waiting a one-way trip to life as a crazy cat woman? And what if I, um, think about a certain boy a certain way? It seems the lady at church and your friends have two very different opinions on the subject. And the purity talks aren’t always cutting it.
Bekah Hamrick Martin knows the waiting game isn’t easy or straight-forward. In The Bare Naked Truth, she lays everything on the table—including some embarrassing moments—as she explores the honest, naked truth behind what God means by purity. With additional entries from popular authors, you’ll see the bare naked approach to waiting isn’t always easy, but it’s worth the risk.
Never have I laughed so hard at the beginning of a book. Or any book, for that matter. Bekah is a great storyteller. She weaves her humor with everyday thoughts we all have, but might be a bit too shy to actually say out loud. And for that, I love this book, and her.
It is so hard to wait. Especially if you don’t have boundaries in your relationship you’re vigilant in following. Bekah gets that. This book isn’t just a shallow pep talk. Bekah goes deep and she gets real. You will appreciate her candor and see that she speaks from experience and Biblical understanding.
I’ve often said that when we do things God’s way, there are no consequences. So when I saw this is Bekah’s book I was thrilled:
“Sex outside of marriage may make us feel just a flicker of what we think it is to be alive. But in the end, condoms, pregnancy worries. STD freak-outs- they tie us to the back porch. They keep our feet from finding the real dance. The one that will allow us to enjoy sex the way God wanted it: Unchained. Unboxed. Free. The way it was designed to be.”
It’s true. There is no promise that life will be all sunshine and roses, but still, when we do things God’s way we bypass all the extra burdens we were never meant to carry.
I’m thrilled to endorse and give this book my recommendation. I recommend it for teens, moms, youth leaders, and mentors. It’s also a great book to do as a group.
